On your arrival at the Puerto Maldonado airport, you will be met by our guide and taken to the Tambopata river, where we will depart by boat for a two hour trip to our lodge. Our lodge is located on the banks of the Tambopata river at the beginning of the Tambopata Candamo Reserve. During the trip you will enjoy seeing some of the wild fauna, which consists mainly of birds that live near the river. The species you may see are: jabirus, herons, macaws, kingfishers etc. Occasionally mammals such as capybara (ronsocos) and tapir (sachavacas) may be seen. You may also see some reptiles resting on the riverside, such as white caimans and turtles. After lunch at the lodge, we will take a brief rest and then we will walk around the area to observe the rich flora and fauna that surrounds us. We shall see birds (tiramus, toucans etc) which live in trees that are more than a thousand years old, such as chiguaguacos, almendrillos, lapunas, etc. Occasionally a lizard or colourful butterfly will interrupt our walk. At night, after dinner, on a nocturnal walk, you will be able to go with our guide to search for insects, batrachians, and other animals, such as nocturnal monkeys.
After breakfast, we will take the boat upstream into the Tambopata Candamo Rserve for approximately two hours. We will arrive at El Gato Creek, where we will enjoy the wonderful waterfalls and go for an unforgettable swim. After swimming, we will take a walk in the high forest in the zone of epiphytes and bromelia, as well as the millenarian Brazilian nut trees. In the afternoon, we will return to the lodge. At night we will go out to look for caimen at the riverside, together with our guide.
After an early wake up call and breakfast, your guide will take you to Puerto Maldonado and will assist you at the airport prior to your departure for Lima or Cusco.
